Loetz Crete Papillon Vase, circa 1900
This is a gorgeous Loetz (Lötz) art glass vase. The Loetz company was founded by Loetz Klostermuehle of Bohemia, the modern day Czech Republic. This stunning vase would be the perfect addition to your glass collection.
This décor style, or pattern, is known as Crete Papillon (butterfly) which is characterized by its oil spot decoration and iridescence. The base glass of this piece is a lovely shade of green, which is accented by the eye-catching iridescence. In low-light this piece appears a charming shade of green, while in direct light this piece takes on a shimmering blue. This lovely vase is approximately 10 1/2 inches tall, has a base of 4” and an approximate circumference of 11”. This early 20th Century piece was made in 1900. This piece is unsigned, typical of Loetz creations. This piece is in excellent condition, free from cracks, chips and flea bites.
