R. Lalique "Poissons" Opalescent Glass Platter, circa 1931
This is a wonderful opalescent glass platter, made in the "Poissons" pattern by Rene Lalique in France around 1931. The platter is also known as a "coupe-plate" or a shallow centerpiece bowl. "Poissons" platters and plates are an iconic design of Rene Lalique. The bodies of 12 sardine-like fish form a swirling design on this platter and the bottom is dotted with little bubbles where their faces meet. The glass exhibits a strong blue in the opalescence. A truly beautiful piece.
This platter measures 11 1/2" x 11 1/2" x 1 7/8". It is in excellent condition, with minimal surface scratches and only normal wear for this time period. "R. LALIQUE FRANCE" is stamped on the bottom.
