This is a beautiful turn of the Century vase, of French cameo glass vase created by Gallé. Gallé was one of the most influential artists of the Art Nouveau movement in Europe. The featured vase is from the Banjo series, a hard to find small vase with 4 cameo glass colors. Throughout his life, Gallé made works for the Banjo series in various color combinations. The vase is created by an acid cut back, an acid resist technique often used by Gallé, which allowed him to have layers of colored glass. The smoky pink, and cream colors set the background for a striking relief of green sycamore leaves. You can see the various layers of glass that were used at the base of the vase, which has a polished pontil. The vase is 6 1/2 inches tall by 3 1/3 wide and opens 1 inch at the mouth. Signed by Gallé, this vase is a delicate and elegant piece of nineteenth century glass art. Gallé's works received the "grand prix" and greatest honor at the 1889 World Art Fair in Paris. This vase dates to 1900.
