A rare black thistle vase from the French cameo glass artist Gallé, one of the most influential glass artists of the Art Nouveau movement in Europe. The two-color relief created by an acid etching process creates a strikingly masculine black thistle design, on a smoky and subdued amber background. Gallé's works received the "grand prix" and greatest honor at the 1889 World Art Fair in Paris.
This vase is excellent condition and stands 10" x 4" at the widest diameter. Circa 1900.
I have included a picture of three French Cameo Glass vase together to show how well they look together in a group.
