Art Deco Period Pale Palisander Oval Dressing Mirror, Vienna, Austria circa 1930
Art Deco Period Pale Palisander Oval Dressing Mirror, Vienna, Austria c.1930. This mirror is a luxurious artifact of a glamorous period when dressing in an elegant fashion was an integral component of a well lived life. The elegant oval shape of this mirror frame is enhanced by the flared tips of the lyre form support that encloses the mirror as well as the raised platform with its gently flared vertical sides that stand upon the floor. These powerful geometric shapes with flat planes are accentuated by the use of palisander timber chosen for its strong linear patterned grain. Notice the manner in which the grain of the wood was carefully placed to run across the surface in order to define the horizontal and vertical planes of the frame and stand. The mirror is finished on all sides as it was designed to be visible from every direction and the back of the mirror is encased within a solid wood panel. The original mirror is fully beveled and the oval frame is able to be tilted so the mirror will reflect a full length image.
