Regency Style Black Convex Mirror circa 1900 (22 1/2" dia.)
The graphic quality of this black painted Regency style circa 1900 convex mirror along with gilded highlights gives it a terrific impact. The black portion has a ribbed profile punctuated with four bands of crossed ribbons placed equidistantly around the perimeter. The twenty gilded spheres are placed around the entire frame and draw attention to the band of decorative moulding located adjacent to the original convex mirror glass. This type of mirror became quite popular during the Regency period in England and appeared in fine homes where they were essential for dining rooms in order for the hostess to see when everyone was finished with a course of a meal. when it was time for a change she could discreetly alert the staff. Now the unusual reflection of the convex mirror glass adds a unique element to an interior.
