Karl Springer Lacquered Mirror circa 1960 (28" wide x 38" high)
The elegant and refined purity of this vintage lacquered mirror is attributed to the designer and manufacturer Karl Springer. The simple oval shape is a perfect frame for the four flared keystones highlighted with gilding set at the top and bottom and both sides. Springer's ability to take Art Deco and Asian influences and translate them into a modern sensibility was world reknowned as he maintained showrooms in New York, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Munich and Chicago. This vintage mirror from the United States has a bold scale to the frame as it is rounded where the black lacquer appears. The four geometric keystones have straight edges and feature a hand drawn line of gilding that echoes the shape. The frame encloses the original mirror and may be installed either vertically or horizontally.
