Grapevine Motif Painted Antique French Mirror circa 1890 (33 1/2" w x 51 1/2" h)
The unique form of this antique mirror circa 1890 with its crossed arms draped with flowing grape vines celebrates the lush history of wine making in France. All four of the arms of the frame are rendered in "faux bois" (literally false wood in French) with a raised texture similar to the bark of a tree. This antique mirror is crowned at the top with a cartouche of grape clusters suspended from a wreath of vines. The gold leaf used to highlight the grape motif is subtle yet eye catching and gives a three dimensional effect to the French mirror. The frame encloses the original mirror glass with its wonderful aged appearance.
