French Louis XVI Period Giltwood Mirror
Marvelous French Louis XVI period giltwood mirror with its original glass. The gilded frame has gadrooned moldings and the inner border features "les perles" (beading that resembles a strand of pearls) next to the original antique mirror glass. Red oxidation showing through the beautiful water gilded patina that is original to the piece.
Artisans used this beading technique as a decorative element on the grandest pieces, as pearls symbolized power and luxury since only the most wealthy aristocrats could afford them. The attractive nature of this mirror with its geometric lines and its mixture of both simplicity and decoration makes it ideal for use in today's interiors.
