Pail was a well known French landscape painter in his time. He particularly liked to paint fields of heather, for which he was acclaimed. He made his debut at the Paris Salon in 1870 and became a member of the Salon des Artists Francais in 1888. He was included in an important exhibit on Painters in Algeria at the Castre Art Museum in Cannes in 2003. His works can be found in the regional museums in Brest and Clamecy. Pail is listed in several dictionaries of artists and has many high auction records.
