Chapleau was born in the Loire Atlantique region of France in 1882. He specialized in painting frescoes. His style was greatly influenced by Post Impressionism and Fauvism. From 1913 to 1924 he exhibited mostly mythological subjects at the Societe Nationale des Beaux Arts in Paris. Chapleau is listed in the Benezit Dictionary of Artists and in La Cote des Peintres by Akoun.
