Jennie Vennerstrom Cannon (1869-1952); "Tamalpais", 1927, oil on board
A wonderful rare and important oil on board work by California Impressionist painter Jennie Vennerstrom Cannon depicting the San Francisco Bay with Mount Tamalpais off in the distance and a lovely Eucalyptus tree in the foreground. The painting is signed on the front with the initials JVC (obscured by the frame) and signed again on the back. It is also titled on the back "Tamalpais" and dated 1927 with the original sale price of $30. The colors are extraordinary, and plein air works by the artist are extremely hard to find. The year this painting was created is rather important in the artistic history of the region (see note).
