"Blue and Silver", Early 20th century American Impressionist Oil Painting by George F. Gib
In this 1926 portrait of the artist’s wife, sculptor Maurine Montgomery, entitled “Blue and Silver,” a nude woman lounges on a gilt French style sofa with an ice bucket and other articles on a small side table. Light appears to come from a window behind. The elongated pose fully demonstrates the body’s grace and makes it the clear focal point of the painting. However, the furnishings are also prominently highlighted. Exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts (PAFA) in 1926. Unframed.
In this image George F. Gibbs uses the style into the 20th century. In addition to artist, he was an author, illustrator, and screenwriter working mostly in Philadelphia, PA.
