"Madonna of the Baldacchino" after Raphael
Madonna of the Canopy was originally painted by Raphael between 1506 and 1508 and is currently at the Galleria Palatina at the Pitti Palace in Florence. It was the first major commission of Raphael in Florence for the Dei Chapel at the Church of the Holy Spirit. It depicts a holy conversation, around an enthroned Virgin Mary and Child, involving St. Peter and St. Bernard of Clairvaux to the left and Apostle James the Great and St. Augustine to the right. This version was commissioned for a private chapel in Spain and it dates from the end of the 18th-Century.
