List Price $4,000

An original signed oil on linen canvas by English artist Christopher Stone (1933-) titled "The Wyndham Sisters", 2017. Hand signed and dated by Stone lower left. Canvas size: 36" x 24". Mint condition. This painting features John Singer Sargent's "The Wyndham Sisters", 1899 which is within the permanent collection and on view at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.

The three daughters of the Honorable Percy Wyndham, a wealthy Londoner, appear in this monumental canvas. From the left, they are Madeline Adeane (1869–1941), Pamela Tennant (1871–1928), and Mary Constance, Lady Elcho (1862–1937). Sargent painted them in the drawing room of their family’s residence on Belgrave Square. Seen on the wall above them is George Frederic Watts’s portrait of their mother (private collection), which establishes their genealogy and reminds viewers of Sargent’s reverance to older artists. Displayed in 1900 at the Royal Academy, The Wyndham Sisters was hailed by the critics and dubbed “The Three Graces” by the Prince of Wales.

Christopher Stone (1933-) is a self-taught English painter. He served in the Royal Air Force as a fighter pilot, and completed 32 years of service in 1983 in the rank of 1 star general. During his retirement in Virginia, USA he has diligently studied painting. He initially concentrated his efforts towards aviation art, in which field his works have been exhibited by the Guild of Aviation Artists in London, and the American Society of Aviation Artists in the United States. In recent years his painting interests have expanded to embrace portraiture, figurative and landscape subjects, and many of these works are in private collections around the globe. Maintaining a strictly representational style, in his preferred medium of oil, and with a keen attention to light and atmospheric effects, he has been greatly influenced by British artists including: Sir Alfred Munnings, Sir William Orpen, Edward Seago; and the great Spanish impressionist Joaquin Sorolla.
