Frederick Bridgman is one of the most important and recognized American Orientalists. His naturalistic and aesthetic subjects in bright colors will command instantaneous attention and convey delight to the viewer. Although Paris was his headquarters, where Jean-Leon Gerome (French Orientalist) had a significant influence on the artist; Bridgman’s traveled through Algeria and Egypt that exposed him to the Middle Eastern subjects.
13x16 oil on re-lined canvas. Signed and inscribed upper right; ‘To my friend S H Pearce’, and dated 1880. The frame is not period to the painting.
