19th Century Painting of Boy in Napoleonic Costume
This charming painting was purchased 20 years ago in France by the owner of The Gables. It graced her dining room all these years only to be replaced by a portrait of her own son. It was painted in oil in the portrait style of the day which meant in full costume. The colors are deep rich tones of red and gold. The frame is believed to be the original 19th c. one in carved and gilded wood. Even though the feel of the painting is quite traditional, it was used in the room with a large contemporary painting.
