"Trident Parade" by Alan Dennis, Photograph, 1973
A dye transfer photograph by the Trident Parade by American artist Alan Dennis from 1973. Unlike normal darkroom printing, dye transfer requires special equipment, dividing up the individual colors of the film negative, then a dye bath that imbues the image with rich hues and saturation that normal printing cannot recreate. This process allows for a fairly ordinary image-- such as this street view of a parade-- to transform and be fully saturated with magenta tones. From an edition of 50, this photograph is set in a white mat with a silver frame.
