Pair of Chromolithographs by J. G. Keulemans, 19th Century
A pair of 19th Century chromolithographs by noted Dutch ornithological artist John Gerrard Keulemans (1842-1912) from his series on Parrots and Lories. One plate depicts The New Britain Lory and The Golden Banded Lory while the second plate depicts The Plain Lory in two poses. The colors are exceptionally sharp and the details are beautiful typical of Keulemans work. They were published by R. H. Porter and hand colored. Porter was considered one of the best lithographers at the time doing work for Gould and others of the time. They are matted in hand lined French mats with contemporary gilt wood frames.
