Abbott Pattison (1916-1999); Untitled, Cast Bronze Sculpture
A unique cast and welded abstract bronze sculpture on a marble base by listed Chicago artist Abbott Pattison, 1960. The sculpture form strongly resembles a species of wading bird, and is equally interesting regardless of which side of the sculpture is being viewed. Curiously, what appears to be a letter 'V' with serifs serves as a 'wing' on one side of the sculpture.
Pattison was a very accomplished artist and the winner of numerous awards for his innovative sculptures. His works are held in several museum collections nationwide.
The sculpture is signed in the bronze 'A Pattison' and again in pencil under the base. On the bottom is also noted in pencil 'Bay Learning ............' (last word is illegible, possibly location where it was exhibited), the date '1960', and the original price of $125.
