Bronze of Prometheus and the Eagle, by Egide Rombaux
Bronze mythological sculpture of Prometheus as he fends off attack by the eagle sent by Zeus. Sculpted by Egide Rombaux, a Belgian who lived from 1865 to 1942. This is a large bronze with nice brown patina. It shows great gesture and movement in the figures of both man and eagle.
Rombaux was the son of a Brussels sculptor who was his first teacher. Egide Rombaux spent his twenties studying in Paris and Rome, and returned to Brussels, where he was a versatile sculptor for the rest of his life. He won the Prix de Rome and was a member of the Royal Academy of Brussels.
