Bergman Cold Painted Bronze Pheasant Sculpture
A beautifully articulated, cold painted bronze Bergman sculpture of a male pheasant bird. The pheasant is a majestic Franz Bergman bronze, and is signed on the underside. This Bergman mark is a B in an urn shaped cartouche, which was his foundry seal. The sculpture is 8 x 13 x 3 inches- 20 x 33 x 8 cm and is one of his larger, more rare pieces. The sculpture dates to the 1900's, or turn of the century. The paint remains in great condition, and has a range of bright red and white, to softer earth colors. The feathers are nicely detailed and the claws of the bird are quite realistic. Bergman was an Austrian foundry owner, who operated a workshop in the 19th Century and employed many artisans in Vienna. He was well known in Europe for his excellent cold-painted bronze Oriental, erotic and animal sculptures.
