After Jean-Baptiste Greuze (1725-1805) French; "The Broken Jug" Bronze

A wonderful, 19th c. French bronze sculpture after Jean-Baptiste Greuze's iconic painting, "The Broken Jug". The subject is an allegory of lost virginity or innocence, and the original painting by Greuze was received with rave reviews when it was first presented by the artist. This bronze is signed with initials 'PB' which have not been identified to date, however, another bronze sculpture of the same subject adorns the grave of Greuze.
