Bronze Animalier Hunting Dog Sculpture by P J Mene
An early 20th Century Animalier patinated bronze sculpture of hunting dog, a retriever, on a rectangular marble base. This highly detailed and wonderful sculpture of a retriever was made by Pierre Jules Mene (France, 1810-1879), one of the great Animalier Sculptors. The artist captures the dog in pointing position, poised and looking back to acknowledge the hunter and his master. The dog's body is rendered in a high realism where the artist has paid attention to rendering all the muscles and and bone structure visible on the dog. This elegant sculpture is a fine example from the important Animalier School of Sculpture, which was born in France in the 19th Century. Signed by the artist: P J Mene.
