A finely carved 18th c. fragmentary marble head of Asclepius, early Grand Tour era
A highly decorative and finely carved Greco-Roman style head of a man believed to be Asclepius, the god of medicine and healing, created c. 1780-1800 and probably of Italian origin. The head was created during the earlier, European "Grand Tour" period by a master carver based on the quality of the workmanship. A wonderful accent piece that evokes the mystery of antiquity.
