Choisy le Roi ‘’Busts of Beethoven’’ by Albert Carrier Belleuse (1824-1887)

Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse (France, 19th Century)

Choisy le Roi ‘’Busts of Beethoven’’ by Albert Carrier Belleuse (1824-1887)

This finely detailed bust of Beethoven by Albert Ernest Carrier-Belleuse followed in the tradition of his other busts, each capturing figures highly admired in the mid-nineteenth century for their ingenuity and intellect. Beethoven is intricately detailed with his flowing locks over the twists and flops of his intricate garb.

Signed on the back of the bust A Carrier Belleuse and that is an extremely limited release for Choisy le Roi.

Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse (1824-1887) with whom Rodin worked in Belgium, made this bust around 1863. Only one of these busts of Beethoven in bronze can be found in a public collection, in the museum of Ermitage at Saint-Petersburg
