Impressive 19th Century Terracotta Figure of Bernard Palissy, measurement 41 inches high
Bernard Palissy (Agen, 1510 Paris 1589 or 1590) was, successively, a potter, an enameller, a painter, a glassblower, a writer, and French scholar. In the 19th-century, Palissy's pottery became the inspiration for Mintons Ltd's Victorian majolica, which was exhibited at the London Great Exhibition of 1851 under the name "Palissy ware".
Of foreign contributions to the Exhibition France will be the largest contributor; it may be the Bernard Palissy of 1850 displayed by Dorfer at the Great Exhibition of London in 1851
