An early, French Polychromed wood carving of a Holy Figure
An early, probably 15th Century French polychrome wood carving; It is of oak, with hollowed back. The figure is God the Father depicted as Pope, with globe at feet. The carving is vested in white alb and red cope and wearing a two tear tiara; although the final tiara is triple crowned. Likely the paints are reapplied, though traces of the original paints are probably there, with traces of gold. Approximately 40 inches tall and 12.5 inches wide.
Condition: The entire carving shows some wear and tear. The wood demonstrates aged insect damage. Twelve inch continuous crack from between the knees down to the end of the red cope. Also, the globe at the feet shows gash. The right side of the face marked with insignificant candle burns. Forearms are lost, exposing the construction openings, both new and old.
