A Superb Pair of Adult and Child Early Amish Bentwood Hickory Rocking Chairs
A superbly hand crafted pair of adult and child early Amish bentwood 'twig' rockers, made c. 1890-1910. This near identical pair, one is just a much smaller version, are unusually intricate and well made with design sensibilities harkening to the 'Art Nouveau'. The form of the chairs, although easily placed in rustic decor, also allows for their inclusion in more Modern settings. There are many Amish rockers on the market, however it is very difficult to find pieces this early or made with this degree of craftsmanship, and good luck finding a child's rocker. The wood has a wonderful, dark patina with appropriate wear from use. The large rocker measures approximately 32" long x 24.5" deep x 42" tall, and the child's rocker is approximately 24" long x 17.5" deep x 31" tall. Occasionally, these types of chairs are mistakenly referred to as 'Adirondacks'.
