Pair Louis XV Style Giltwood Bergeres, Belle Epoque Period, France c.1890
Pair Louis XV Style Giltwood Bergeres, Belle Epoque Period, France c.1890. This pair of comfortable armchairs are known as "bergeres" in France because the arms are fully upholstered instead of being open. The lovely curved profile begins with the back as it slopes down to the arms and continues on to the feet of each chair which possess the familiar cabriole shape. This style was developed during the reign of Louis XV where the emphasis was placed upon an evocation of nature with all of its natural curves and swirls. The chairs have been freshly upholstered in contrasting and complementary fabrics with a loose seat cushion and a smaller pillow to provide exceptional ease while seated.
