A late 18th-Century or early 19th-Century English equestrian themed elm wood lodging box and foot stool. It has a hinged lid, newly upholstered in a padded Scottish tartan wool. The lid lifts to reveal a fitted zinc drip pan that holds wine and liquor. It is highly decorated on 3 sides with old horse brasses and an assortment of antique coins, numbering over 125. The coins are from England, France, Italy, Belgium, Germany, Canada and China and include on the faces such notables as Victoria Regina, George III, George IV, Leopold of Belgium, Umberto I, the States of Jersey, New Brunswick and London. They are attached by bronze tacks. This one-of-a-kind box has sides nearly 1" thick and it it very heavy. Casters are attached on the base to allow ease of movement. It has pegged construction and is finished with a lovely bull nose edge at the base. It is a real find and quite a conversation piece! We found it in a small village in England.
