A great pair of Wood & Hughes salts made in 900 silver, with a gold washed interior in the bowl. They are made in the style of Egyptian Revival. Each open salt master measures 1-7/8" x 2-1/2". Each salt dish has an applied pharaoh head near the handles, with some really great detail to the features and headdress. The top rim of the salt masters as well as the bottom rim has a nice engine turned detail. The stepped circular base also has a fine beaded detail. The salt dish also has a monogrammed name, and they are marked on bottom "900/1000 W & H". Total weight 4 troy ounces. As a silver maker, Wood & Hughes became highly regarded and well known for its tableware with classical motifs, as can be seen on these bowls. Wood & Hughes emerged on the silver scene in 1845 after Jacob Wood and Jasper H. Hughes broke away from the original parent company, Gale, Wood & Hughes. These Egyptian revival salts are spectacular; they make an elegant addition to a table setting. A great addition to a silver collection. Circa 1855.
