Gorham Sterling Silver Water Pitcher with Acanthus Leaves
This is a stunning sterling silver water pitcher, made in the American Renaissance Revival style by Gorham in 1890. Its polished body is decorated with chased and hammered scrolling acanthus leaves. The pattern is quite large and bold, positively covering the piece with decadent swirls. The spout has a layered seashell design. This piece is in near perfect condition, with no nicks or dents; certain to impress party guests.
It measures 7 1/4" tall x 8" from spout to handle x 4 1/4" across. It weighs an impressive 21.88 Troy ounces. It holds two quarts of water. This pitcher does have "E.G.H" monogram engraved on the cartouche, but the silver is so thick, it could be buffed out. The bottom is marked with the Gorham marks, the rooster date mark (for 1890), the number "1494," and "STERLING."
