German Hand-Hammered 800 Silver Urn
This is a tall, gorgeous 800 silver urn, made in Germany in the 1890s. It features an austro-hungarian design, with bubble-like delineation to the shape and surface of the piece as well as a pointed peak top. The entire urn used to be gilded, both the inside and the outside. The surface has since been polished back to silver, but you can still see traces of gold in the creases of the bubbled pattern. The piece also retains its beautiful gilt interior, along with clear evidence of its hand-hammered construction. The lid is topped with a finial with foliate decoration and the foot is rimmed with beaded detailing. This piece is in excellent condition and is truly stunning to behold.
It measures 14" tall and 5 1/4" across its widest point. The foot is 5" in diameter. It weighs 771 grams, or about 24.79 Troy ounces. It is marked with the German moon and crown mark and "800."
