Sterling Silver Calling Card Case with Scrolling Brite Cut Work
This is a gorgeous sterling silver calling card case, made by Israel Sigmund Greenburg in Birmingham in 1907. It has a graceful curved form with a half circle cut-out to provide easier access to one's cards. The front displays beautiful brite cut work depicting scrolling foliage-like designs surrounding a shield-shaped cartouche. This piece is in excellent condition.
It measures 3 1/4" x 1 5/8" x 1/4" and weighs 22 grams, or 0.7 Troy ounces. It bears the maker's mark for Israel Sigmund Greenburg, the anchor for Birmingham, and the date letter h for 1907. There is an ornate "JWR" monogram engraved on the cartouche.
