Edwardian Silver Envelope Opener and Magnifying Glass
An Edwardian Silver envelope opener or paper knife, made by Andrew Barrett & Sons, in London, circa 1902. It has a circular handle inset with a magnifier and applied C-scrolls. There is a silver ball in the center that adds a decorative touch. It is marked on the blade with the maker, year and place. It weighs 2 ozt 13 dwt and measures 8 1/4 inches long. The silver work is really nice on this piece; you can see the silver that was hand-fitted around the piece of magnifying glass (1.5 inches in diameter). The magnifying glass also works very well and along with the silver it also has a very nice weight to it and feels nice in your hand. It is a great functional tool and also a beautiful item from the Edwardian era. It is in great condition for its age. It makes a really great gift, and it is a great item to own for its dual function.
