American Aestheitc Movement Sterling Silver Gorham Hizen Pattern Cheese Scoop
Lovely American sterling silver cheese scoop made in the Hizen pattern by Gorham. The Gorham Company's Hizen pattern was introduced in 1880 and patented in 1893. The name `Hizen' comes from an old Japanese province. It is a multi-motif pattern incorporating the Aesthetic Movement which was strongly influenced by Japanese Art. The design is an aquatic theme using sea life together with foliage to present an amazing undersea world. The detail of this piece is stunning, a carp swims down the handle of waves and seaweed. The bowl is decorated with an engraving of seaweed and coral attached to rocks. The reverse of the cheese scoop is adorned with a tiny crab and the Gorham hallmark and "Sterling."
It measures 8 1/4 inches long.
