A Fine Victorian Sterling Dressing Tray with Cherubs by William Comyns, 1896, London

A fine, and in remarkably good condition, Sterling silver dressing table tray with angel's heads by noted London silversmiths William Comyns & Sons, made in London, 1896. The design in the center of the tray featuring male and female cherubs' heads emerging from billowing clouds is after an 18th c. work by Sir Joshua Reynolds. These pieces by Comyns were usually created on very thin silver which was prone to wearing down quickly and even developing holes, but this rare example retains the majority of its original detail with minimal wear. Very difficult to find in this condition. The silver weight is approximately 330 grams.
