French Sterling Silver Chocolate Pot by Leon Lapar

Stunning French sterling silver chocolatier's pot of baluster form, spirally fluted with rocaille at lower body and rim. The body is raised on three pad feet, with an ebony wood handle at the right angle to spout. The bottom of the pot is marked with the maker's mark and guarantee mark by Leon Lapar. The pot is 5 Troy ounces, 17 dwt gross and stands 5 1/8 inches tall. It is in excellent condition, although there is a tiny dent just below the spout that blends in the ribbing. At the end of the 18th century, Europeans began preparing chocolate with milk and sugar to create what is now known as hot chocolate. The popularity of the beverage became such that many of the leading European silver and goldsmiths began making a pot just for the hot beverage.
