19th Century, Sterling Silver Youth Spoon and Fork Set by Whiting
This is a curious sterling silver fork and spoon set with intricate swirling designs and animated features made by Whiting in 1885. This set is a youth set- both the fork and the spoon are too big for a small child, but feature playful imagery such as a man's face on the spoon- reminiscent of the man on the moon. To complement, the fork has wispy grass-like strands that turn into hair and part of a person's face. Its really a great set, and it's playful qualities make it a wonderful gift for a loved one, which could very well become a future addition to a silver collection. The spoon and fork have the notable Whiting designs of magical swirls and intricate organic designs, almost surreal at times, some of which were beyond his time. Whiting Manufacturing Company was one of the late 19th century’s premier producers of sterling silver flatware, hollowware, and other decorative objects. Features maker's marks, the number 2969 and Sterling Silver. They measure approximately 6 1/4 inches long.
