Rare Tiffany &Co. Sterling Silver Hot Toddy Ladle in Persian Pattern
A beautiful 19th Century Tiffany & Co. Sterling silver bucket ladle in the ornate Persian design. Marked with Tiffany & Co. Sterling and pattern number 1872. The wonderfully ornate Persian pattern was used by Tiffany & Co. in their flatware beginning in 1872. It has elegant ornamentation front and back. There is an "m" mark before all other marks on the back of the handle of this ladle, which dates the silver to pre- 1875 era. This Persian pattern was highly desirable at the time of its original issue, in 1872 when exotic lands were all in vogue (Japanese, Egyptian, Persian) and although it fell out of favor at the turn of the Century, its highly ornate patterning would be re-issued again in 1907. It became a beautiful example of silver maker's art. This hot toddy ladle is a rare find, and especially one with an empty space up top for a personalized engraving, or initial marks. It is in great condition, 7 1/2inches long, weighs 50 grams and is a great addition to a sterling collection.
