Whiting Sterling Silver Ivory Pattern Salad Servers in Original Case
This is a stunning set of sterling silver salad servers, in the Ivory pattern by Whiting. The bowl of the spoon and the blade of the fork are gilded, hand chased and feature gorgeous repousse work. The Ivory pattern (#2888) was designed by Charles Osborne and was patented in 1890. There were about 27 pieces in the Ivory line, all with fancy ornate piercing and beautiful repousse decoration. The carved ivory handles were often stained brown and the stain on these particular servers is still in excellent shape.
These servers are both 10 inches long. They come in their original velvet case. They are marked with the Whiting lion, "STERLING," and "2888." There is a monogram engraved on both pieces: an "S" and a "B" intertwined with the dates "1841-1891." Most likely an Anniversary gift for a 50th year wedding celebration. My hats off to that!
