Chinese Export Sterling Silver Repousse Footed Vase
This is a gorgeous sterling silver repousse floral vase, made in China around 1920. The repousse pattern is in remarkably high relief and depicts a wide variety of flowers, including chrysanthemums, roses, daisies, and poppies and their leaves. Behind the leaves, there is extensive hand-chased stipple work. The craftsmanship required for this kind of hand-detailing is quite impressive. The vase has an everted rim and is raised on a squat stem with a domed foot. It is in excellent condition and a rather rare find. Complete tea sets by this maker sell for $20,000 at Christies Auction House.
This vase measures 5" tall x 4 1/2" wide at its widest point. It weighs 9.5 Troy ounces. It is marked "C.J.", "Sterling," and with a Chinese character panel.
