18th Century Chinese Offering Table in Elm Wood
An outstanding 18th century Offering Table from Shanxi Provenance, China. Originally, a table such as this would house a bronze sensor for burning incense... Beautifully constructed by traditional Chinese joinery techniques. The edge finish surrounding the top is carved to resemble bamboo - symbolic of nature. The knee of the graceful cabriole leg is carved with the "bat" - a very auspicious good fortune symbol. The curvilinear apron is adored with a beautiful floral motif. The table is raised on a platform to denote its importance. This exquisite table serves wonderfully as a low lying center table - or as a coffee table.
