Art Deco Period Bird's Eye Maple Table, France c.1930
Art Deco Period Bird's Eye Maple Table, France c.1930. The stunning pattern of the maple timber is displayed to absolute best advantage by the broad flat planes of this table. Every single surface is sheathed in the bird's eye maple so named because of its distinctive pattern of small circles that resembe the eyes of a bird. Because this table was created during the Art Deco period when electricity illuminated every room it was important that every detail of the design reflect the precious quality of the maple. The architectural profile of the table is quite pronounced with the stacked rectangular base at each end and the vertical moulding that defines the end supports. As the table is finished on all sides it is able to be used in a wide variety of applications in a wide range of interior styles from quite modern to more transitional. It is the absolute glow of the timber with its depth of colour and naturally occuring pattern that set this table apart.
