Fabulous Empire Bronze-Mounted Gilt Center Table or Desk
A fabulous Empire style, Belle Époque era gilt bronze center table or desk, Paris, circa 1910. From Wallace Seawell's 20th century Fox Home, sold at Sotheby's, New York, April 22, 2010. The four corners having a wonderfully detailed bronze full figured maiden bearing one breast and looking away in opposite directions. Each bashful woman steading a pillow atop her head to support the fine gilt bronze desk or center tabletop. The drawers with winged putti pulling a ribbon around the doré bronze drawer pull. The front and back with full figured woman holding a cornucopia in each hand around the apron of the table. The top with the original tooled leather. This piece is in fine original condition. In need of slight restoration should one prefer perfection. Otherwise it is strong and study.
