Early 18th century French, Lyon, Silk Brocade Table Cover from the Naturalism period
An early 18th century (1730 – 1740’s) French, possibly Lyonnaise, silk brocade table cover from the Naturalism period. A rich ground of blue silk with islands depicting a castle
surrounded by large flowers and leaves woven in polychrome silk threads. The colored silks show a prime example of points rentres or color shading/ hatching which is so distant of this period. Lined and edged in a period metallic scalloped galon. Condition: These pieces are typically made from dresses that were worn and used so naturally this table cover is pieced from what remains of the dress, pieced more then likely during the 18th century.
