Unframed Pastel II, Henry Marius Camille Bouvet (1859-1945), Pastel on Paper
Henry Bouvet was admitted to the Ecole des Beaux Arts of Lyon in 1878 and first exhibited in the Salon de Lyon in 1882; he exhibited at the Salon de Paris starting in 1887. He moved from Lyon to Paris in 1891 and studied with the famous artists Eugene Carriere and Alfred Roll. The same year he became a member of the Salon de la Societe Nationale des Beaux Arts de Paris. His exhibitions included two large-scale shows in Paris, in 1907 and 1923, as well as international exhibitions in Dresden, Vienna, London, Monaco, Warsaw, Buenos Aires, New York and Tokyo. Away from the bustle of the Parisian art world, Bouvet would retire to the heights of the Normandy cliffs and there, awash in light and sea air, capture the resplendent dawns and sunsets that so enchanted the Impressionists. He was awarded a prestigious bronze medal at the Exposition Universelle in Paris in 1900. His work can be found today in the Museum du Petit Palais in Paris.
