"Mimi" by Louis Icart, Color Etching, 1927
Mimi looks out on a Neoclassical building, possibly the Capital Building in Washington DC, keeping warm inside, her hands tucked into her muff. Louis Icart is synonymous with capturing the feminine and sensual; the women in his works are slender and dressed in costume finery. Icart is a French artist, and is famous for his Art Deco illustrations that were extremely popular in the 1920s. This color etching is copyrighted 1927 by Les Graveurs Modernes on the upper left and signed on the lower right. Reference: Figure 318 in "Louis Icart: The complete etchings" published by Schiffer Publishing Ltd., PA. The frame is an elegant hand-carved black and silver wood, with a white mat with silver bevel.
