An original signed drypoint etching on wove paper by English artist Eileen Alice Soper (1905-1990) titled The New Pupil", 1925. Hand pencil signed by Soper lower center. Possesses blind stamp lower left on sheet. Sheet size: 11" x 9". Image size: 6" x 3.5". Mint condition. The Art Institute of Chicago has a copy of this etching in their permanent collection.
Eileen Alice Soper (1905-1990) was an etcher and illustrator of children's and wildlife books. She was first exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts summer exhibition in 1921 at only sixteen. Childhood was to be the main theme of her charming etchings. Soper's last etched works were produced at the beginning of the 1930’s, after which she turned to illustrating books, amongst them those of Enid Blyton. She was a founder member of the Society of Wildlife Artists (SWLA) and was elected a member of the Royal Societiy of Miniatures Paintsrs, Sculptors and Gravers (RMS) in 1972.
